ROYAL BVI YACHT CLUB CELEBRATES TRAFALGAR BICENTENARY
A series of celebratory events to commemorate the two-hundredth anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar - Britain’s most famous naval victory when Admiral Horatio Nelson defeated the combined French and Spanish fleets on 21 October 1805 - is being organised by the Royal BVI Yacht Club.

Spread over three days from 20 – 22 October, the events will comprise a special exhibition of Nelsonian memorabilia, a reception for yacht club members hosted by the Governor, a brunch and sail-past followed by a commemoratory dinner, and a special regatta for young BVI sailors.

The weekend’s activities
are being sponsored by:

The weekend’s activities are being sponsored by: Appleby Spurling Hunter,

EXHIBITION OF NELSON MEMORABILIA

Pusser’s® owner Charles Tobias, who has amassed one of the largest-known private collections of Nelson memorabilia, is kindly loaning it to the Royal BVI Yacht Club where it will be open to public view for the first time. The collection includes a replica Trafalgar battle flag and model dressed in Nelson’s uniform, as well as many other historic and valuable mementoes that have been sought out over the years. Entry to the exhibition will be free and school parties welcomed.

MEMBERS’ RECEPTION, SAIL-PAST AND ‘IMMORTAL MEMORY’ DINNER

On the evening of 20 October, His Excellency the Governor, Tom Macan, will host a Member’s Only reception at the Yacht Club. The following day, to coincide with the bicentenary itself, the club will open during the morning for a Trafalgar Day brunch and sail-past at which the Governor will ‘take the salute’. That evening members and guests are invited to attend a dinner to celebrate ‘the immortal memory’, the toast traditionally made aboard Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory every Trafalgar Day.

TRAFALGAR DAY YOUTH REGATTA

To round off the celebrations there will be a special regatta for BVI sailors under the age of 19 on the Saturday, at which the winner will be presented with a new Trafalgar Day Trophy, kindly donated by His Excellency as a perpetual Trafalgar Day award.

~ JOIN THE CELEBRATIONS ~
Royal BVI Yacht Club members are encouraged
to participate in the celebrations by attending all or some of the events.

The dinner will be limited to a maximum of 80
